Bette Stead Scholarship ProgramTo help further GHBER’s mission of empowering the next generation of business leaders, GHBER created the Bette Stead Scholarship Program. This scholarship program was created in honor of Dr. Bette Stead, GHBER’s founder who established GHBER to highlight the importance of prioritizing ethics in the workplace and to share “best practices” among Houston’s compliance community. |
Dr. Bette Ann Stead is a professor emerita of the C.T. Bauer College of Business at the University of Houston, where she taught for 34 years. In 1989, Dr. Stead presented a concept statement to the (now) Bauer College suggesting that the business school could bring together company representatives to discuss ethical concerns. In 1995, she presented her idea again and received a positive response from large corporations in the Houston area and shortly thereafter GHBER was founded in 1996. In 1999, Dr. Stead received the “Dedicated Service Award” from GHBER for her exceptional service to the organization. In 2006, on GHBER’s 10th Anniversary, five scholarships were named in Dr. Stead’s honor to thank her for her commitment to GHBER, to her professional community, and to her students. Dr. Stead’s dedication to teaching inspired the scholarship program, which aims to empower young business leaders in ethics & compliance at esteemed universities in Texas. Today, GHBER continues to honor Dr. Stead’s legacy and offers $3,000 scholarships to participating universities to provide to students as credit for tuition to graduate students who have demonstrated ethical leadership in their educational pursuits. |
Scholarship InformationThe sum of $3,000 will be paid to each school to use as credit for tuition
GHBER will partner with the following schools to select a Graduate Student in its MBA or JD programs for the GHBER Bette Stead scholarship (the school may split the scholarship to multiple participants).
The sum of $3,000 will be paid to each school to use as credit for tuition for the chosen student(s).
